Capacity building is one of the important component of any programme for getting desirable impact.
Advancement in medical science has made the trauma care a speciality in it self. There are a number of institution in India and abroad which are
providing specialised course on trauma care. The institution will coordinate for developing programme specific trauma care courses and will
arrange training courses .
Thus manpower training and capacity building would be the major focus area of the 12th FYP as development of trained cadres of professionals
(doctors, nurses, technicians and paramedics) which will help in reduction of Trauma related mortality and morbidity. Currently, there is lack of trained manpower that can effectively cater to the seriously injured patient at all the levels of health care (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary). The concept of a Trauma Team is non-existent and often the persons taking care of the patients are not adequately trained/ skilled in
life saving protocols and procedures. Hence training of the staff is essential part of the activities under the programme.
The activities under training will be broadly divided into 2 parts
A. Development of infrastructure :- the available infrastructure for teaching and training in the designated trauma centers will be utilised for this purpose. JPN Apex Trauma Center and Dr. RML Hospital (PGI), Trauma Center already have the infrastructure for teaching and training for most of the short term courses and have good clinical material and faculties. Hence these two centres will be designated as the National Resource Centers for capacity building in the field of Trauma Care under the programme.
B.Initiation and expansion of short and long term courses to be imparted to doctors and nurses working in the emergency care.
